Tips to feed your hamsters
You should give good food to your hamsters to keep them happy and healthy. Your little furry friend does not need a lot of different types of food, but they need some amount of fresh food and high-quality commercial pellets. Always fill your hamster’s food bowl with balanced food which meets all essential nutrients. Hamsters do not overeat, so don’t worry about filled food bowl, they don’t necessarily eat all of the food in their bowls. It is a common habit of all hamsters that they store or hide some food under their bedding.
If you want to add new food to your little pet, give them that food in the evening time when they wake and gradually introduce that food to avoid causes illness. Usually, hamsters are nocturnal and they sleep in the day and awake in the night. You should feed your little pet hamster mix once in a day. Hamster mix contains vitamins, minerals, and all essentials nutrients.
Some foods are not safe for your little friend so, avoid giving them those foods. We have lists of different types of foods that are good or avoiding for your hamsters.
What does your little pet hamster eat?
Good-quality and the right amount of food are very necessary for your pet because if you will not give them good food they will get sick or causes many problems. The ideal diet that a hamster need will include the following foods:
- Commercial hamster pellets and hamster mix
- Fresh fruits
- Timothy hay
- Gnawing food
1. Commercial hamster pellets and hamster mix
Feed your hamster high-quality commercial pellets which are specially prepared for hamsters. You can get commercial pellets from any pet store. The best amount of commercial pellets for your hamster is one tablespoon daily. It is best if you spread some pellets around their cage instead of giving them in the food bowl.
The hamster mix gives basic nutrition to your hamsters and contains such as oats, maize, barley, and seeds. You can also choose a loose mix that includes dried fruits and vegetables. It is available on all pets’ stores easily.
2. Fresh fruits
Hamster like fresh fruits such as:
- Strawberries, etc
Fresh vegetables are best for your hamsters. They love to eat vegetable like:
- Cooked peas
- Green beans
- Sweet potatoes
- Sweet peppers
- Turnip, etc
These are some herbs your hamsters love to eat:
- Parsley, etc
5. Timothy hay
Timothy hay is the best gnawing food for hamsters that keep your pet’s teeth strong and healthy. Give gnawing food to your hamsters such as Apple wood or rolled oat cereals, this will discourage them from biting metal bars and also get rid of dullness.
Put a water bottle in the hamster’s cage filled with fresh water. Change water daily and provide fresh and clean water to your pet daily.
Hamster also likes to eat Seeds, whole grains, dried fruits, eggs, and cheese.
Avoid providing these foods to your hamsters
Some foods are not good for your hamster so, do not feed them those foods. These are not good for your hamster’s health and can cause any serious medical conditions.
